Perficient currently has a career opportunity for a Director, Experience Design. 

The Director is a senior leadership position with the skills and experience to lead our largest, most strategic engagements while also serving as a key participant in the business leadership of the business unit. This individual will have overall responsibility for the strategic leadership of client engagements from a delivery perspective. Additionally, work closely with the Business Developer, and be responsible for ongoing client development and relationship management activities. This position can be worked remotely with occassional travel to client sites.

Responsibilities

 

As a Director, you will be one of the core leaders of the Experience Design team. Your focus will be both internal – contributing to the vision, growth, and operations of our team, as well as external – leading our teams in the creation of exceptional solutions for our customers. You will be a fierce advocate for user-centered design as you lead sales pursuits, promote Perficient and Experience Design through marketing efforts, foster customer relationships, and deliver innovative work. As a mentor and manager, you will focus on elevating the maturity of our design organization, implementing practices and constructs that will ensure valuable growth. As a leader of this team, you will foster an inclusive and collaborative environment that values all perspectives and insights and promotes the creation of innovative and meaningful digital experiences.

 

What you’ll do

Your responsibilities will align with five key areas:

 

Vision

  • Collaborate on defining future direction of the Experience Design team
  • Provide design thought leadership both internally and externally through messaging, sales and strategy materials and IP development
  • Partner with Perficient business units to establish processes and foster shared success
  • Contribute to marketing efforts via blogging, case studies, and events
  • Promote innovation and identify new revenue streams

 

Leadership

  • Manage and mentor a team of design leaders
  • Provide career development, guidance, and training opportunities
  • Recruit, interview, and onboard new talent
  • Help build an inclusive culture within the Experience Design team and Perficient as a whole

 

Sales

  • Lead sales pursuits in partnership with account developers, sellers, and other business unit leaders
  • Rapidly understand a potential client’s needs and outline a vision appropriate for the budget, ask, and core user needs
  • Confidently communicate the role, purpose, and benefits of Experience Design to our customers and colleagues
  • Identify opportunities in existing accounts through relationship building and strategic recommendations
  • Document scope and generate estimates for new projects

 

Delivery

  • Lead teams across a range of customer engagements ensuring quality, efficiency, and customer satisfaction
  • Formulate teams and processes best suited for each customer engagement
  • Provide design direction and feedback that considers user and business needs, best practices, and innovation opportunities
  • Facilitate client workshops and drive clients to thoughtful, considered decisions
  • Manage customer and team expectations and handle escalations as needed
  • Build and cultivate customer relationships, seek feedback and offer strategic recommendations

 

Operations

  • Help manage designer availability and utilization
  • Support financial and forecasting activities
  • Lead and evangelize internal initiatives aimed at improving quality, performance, and growth
  • Collaborate with Experience Design directors to set goals and plan for the future of the business unit
  • Manage internal performance reviews and contribute constructive feedback

 

You are not expected to be an expert in every single area, but you should have the ability to identify appropriate team members and provide feedback to ensure a quality process and experience.

 

Qualifications

What experience you need

  • Aptitude as a hands-on, strategic thinker who can execute as well as lead.
  • Ability to lead design across devices, from desktop to mobile, and across systems, from browser-based websites and apps to native mobile apps.
  • 10+ years as a Design Director, Account Director, or a related position.
  • Management and mentorship of a team of designers; Experience building and growing a design team a plus.
  • Support and leadership of sales efforts including pitching, scoping, and estimation
  • Mastery in the execution of design deliverables such as sitemaps, wireframes, design comps and prototypes
  • Degree in Design, User Experience, Human Computer Interaction, or a related field.
  • Proficiency with design tools such as Adobe XD, Figma and Sketch.

  • Strategic, creative thinker able to translate findings into clear guidance for designers and developers and define clear project measures.
  • Ability to lead and inspire cross-discipline teams.
  • Demonstrable passion for designing exceptional user experiences.
  • Deep empathy with users, understanding that people will expect a humane, usable, and successful user experience as well as required functionality and features.
  • Ability to communicate well with stakeholders, teammates, and users.
  • Clear, confident, and compelling presentation and facilitation skills
  • A high-level understanding of current relevant technologies and ability to quickly comprehend the fundamentals of new technologies and how those might influence requirements, design approach, and product innovation.
  • Detail-oriented, efficient, flexible, and calm in the face of ambiguity.
  • Flexible and adaptable in approach as well as to fit project budget and timelines.
  • Skills in business strategy, content strategy, or writing a plus.
