Ideal candidate will currently live in the greater Oakland, California market.

 

(Candidate's should be also open to travel as needed.) 

Work will be conducted both remotely as well as at client locations.

Job Overview:

 

As a Hadoop Administrator, you will be filling the role of a hands-on Hortonworks Hadoop Administration

Specialist for the industry-leading Data and Analytics Insight Practice at Perficient.   We are looking for someone who has the necessary technical expertise as well as adept understanding to for working within the solution and maintenance of big data cloud solutions. Working within this type of role requires you have a strong understanding of system administration, application integration, security configuration, script authoring, dev-ops, performance tuning and troubleshooting. This is a client-facing position which requires good communication and business acumen. In addition, we are looking for someone with a background in Agile DevOps, story-telling, prototyping, and sprint deployments.

 

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Manage Hadoop and Spark cluster environments, on bare-metal, container/virtual, and cloud infrastructure, including service allocation and configuration for the cluster, capacity planning, performance tuning, and ongoing monitoring.
  • Work with data engineering related groups in the support of deployment of Hadoop and Spark jobs.
  • Work with IT Operations and Information Security Operations with monitoring and troubleshooting of incidents to maintain service levels.
  • Work with Information Security Vulnerability Management and vendors to remediate known impacting vulnerabilities.
  • Contribute to the evolving distributed systems architecture to meet changing requirements for scaling, reliability, performance, manageability, and cost.
  • Report utilization and performance metrics to user communities
  • Contributes to planning and implementation of new/upgraded hardware and software releases.
  • Responsible for monitoring the Linux, Hadoop, and Spark communities and vendors and report on important defects, feature changes, and or enhancements to the team.
  • Research and recommend innovative, and where possible, automated approaches for administration tasks. Identify approaches to efficiencies in resource utilization, provide economies of scale, and simplify support issues.

 

Qualifications

 

Required Qualifications:

 

  • 3+ years hands-on experience with supporting Linux production environments
  • 3+ years hands-on experience with supporting Hadoop and/or Spark ecosystem technologies in production
  • 3+ years of experience in End-to-End Cloud system solution design
  • 1+ year of hands on experience with supporting Hadoop in a cloud deployment (AWS, Azure, or Cloudbreak)
  • 3+ years hands-on experience with scripting with bash, perl, ruby, or python
  • 2+ years hands-on development / administration experience on Kafka, HBase, Solr, and Hue
  • Experienced with networking infrastructure including VLAN and firewalls
  • Proven track record with Red Hat Enterprise Linux administration
  • Proven track record with Hortonworks Distribution of Hadoop administration
  • Proven track record with troubleshooting YARN jobs
  • Proven track record with HBase Administration to include tuning
  • Proven track record with Apache Spark development and or administration

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Participate and lead in design sessions, demos and prototype sessions, testing and training workshops with business users and other IT associates
  • Ability to learn and develop skills as needed to support services outside of this job description and prove with prior examples
  • Hands-on experience with DevOps solutions like: Puppet, Cloud formation, Docker and some microservices
  • Familiarity with ETL and data transfer technologies like Talend, Informatica, SnapLogic and/or Nifi
  • Ability to work as a collaborative team, mentoring and training the junior team members
  • Working knowledge on building and working on/around data governance standards
  • Passion for working with open-source technologies as well as commercialized platforms

 

 

Preferred Education/Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 3+ years relevant experience or equivalent.
