    Job Overview: 

    Perficient Solutions Architects are software design and development experts with a great depth and breadth of experience with software and website solutions leveraging Microsoft platforms both on-premises and in the cloud (including Office 365 and Azure).  


    A Solutions Architect is a customer-facing consulting position that requires deep software engineering expertise, business analysis capabilities, and strong communication skills.  This individual will be responsible for understanding the Customer’s vision and architecting a solution design that will solve the business challenges.   This individual should have a strong understanding of the industry-standard concepts of object-oriented application design, software engineering process, web development, service-oriented architecture, and database modeling.  The Solutions Architect should also have significant experience with Microsoft technologies and frameworks such as Microsoft.NET, ASP.NET, Azure, Office 365, SharePoint, SQL Server, Microsoft Solutions Framework, Visual Studio Online, and Team Foundation Server. 


    The Solutions Architect will often be leveraged as a Subject Matter Expert in sales engagements with the ability to provide estimates, respond to RFPs, and present to clients.  In addition, they will be expected to lead and mentor other software consultants and engineers on project teams.  As such, the Solutions Architect is required to understand and effectively communicate Perficient’s Enable Methodology to prospects, clients, and other members of the Modern Applications practice.



    • Provides architecture design for solution based on Customer’s constraints (Time/Budget) and Customer’s business requirements; accountable for Data Design within solutions (e.g., data modeling, database architecture, and database optimization); performs Technology Selection for client and internal solutions; understands technology limitations and ensures proposed/developed solutions are built with these limitations in mind
    • Defines Proof-of-Concepts as warranted; executes Proof-of-Concepts including the production of results documentation.
    • Analyzes, defines, and documents Functional, Technical, and Business Requirements; documents Technical Architecture
    • Understands and communicates Principles of Software Technology and Development
    • Analyzes, defines, estimates, and documents Level of Effort
    • Identifies potential re-use opportunities for development purposes
    • Participates in Sales Support pursuit teams according to designated pursuit team role; defines sales pursuit strategy with sales pursuit team; contributes to sales proposal development and review processes; participates in the reviewing of Statements of Work and Change Orders to ensure accuracy
    • Identifies new sales opportunities within Customer’s environment and ensures that those opportunities are properly handled according to established Perficient processes
    • Understands Perficient’s Enable Methodology and is able to communicate this methodology both internally and to clients/prospects; ensures Enable methodology is utilized appropriately; understands and communicates Perficient’s capabilities beyond Software Engineering
    • Responsible for understanding Customer’s overall business and communicating that to Perficient personnel as warranted; understands and communicates customer’s business needs in the context of the solution
    • Communicates overall business benefit of a solution to customer/prospect; communicates business benefit of a solution as it relates to a Customer’s long-term strategy (business or technical);
    • Identify new sales opportunities within Customer’s environment and ensure those opportunities are properly handled within established Perficient processes
    • Estimates development-oriented tasks related to internal and external solutions; estimates entire solutions for both internal and external Customers
    • Performs verbal and written communication with Customer; performs verbal and written communication with Technical and Non-Technical persons; responds professionally to Customer’s requests
    • Provides mentoring and leadership across Perficient as it relates to established processes, professionalism, Customer interaction, etc.
    • Adheres to Perficient Microsoft NBU Best Practices and Coding Standards
    • Can manage own tasks; communicates status to project manager and practice leads as warranted; completes tasks on-time and within budget
    • Leads code reviews
    • Supports and contributes to post-mortem process for engagements
    • Actively tests solution functionality (Smoke/Unit/Integration/QA/Support UAT)
    • Ensure tasks are completed on budget; ensures tasks are completed within deadline; monitors metrics to evaluate ongoing and completed tasks; monitors project health and escalates issues to management; effectively communicates team status
    • Ensures solution adherence to Architecture/Design Pattern(s); ensures solution adherence to Perficient Microsoft NBU UI standards; ensures solution adherence to Perficient coding standards
    • Oversees solution deployment
    • Reviews Project Deliverables
    • Advises on project resourcing; advises on departmental staffing
    • Achieves and maintains applicable certifications (e.g., Microsoft, Sitecore)
    • Stays abreast of latest development technologies and Microsoft platform roadmaps


    Ideal candidate:

    • Solution Architect, must understand the following:
      • Development (prefer a former/current dev)
      • Administration
      • Branding
      • Power Users/How Business People use the product
      • Third-Party Products and feature areas such as:
        • Enterprise Content Management (ECM)
        • Migration
        • Records Management (RM)
      • High-level understanding of the supporting Microsoft ecosystem
        • Identity
        • Mail
        • Messaging
        • Security and Compliance
    • Comfortable with Pre-sales:
      • Great communicator
      • Ability to build technical credibility with the client
      • Create project estimates, proposals, and other supporting documentation
      • Ability to lead customer engagements and the development of documentation for scoping, requirements, design, testing, etc. 
    • Minimum 7 years of professional experience in Microsoft based software engineering.
    • At least 3 years of experience in a professional services company, consulting firm, or agency
    • Have a solid understanding of delivery methodology and lead teams in the implementation of the solution according to the design/architecture.
    • Experience in project and solution estimation and team structure definition.
    • Fluent and current on architecture trends with an eye on market/technical conditions and future direction.
    • Experience in defining new architectures and ability to drive an independent project from an architectural stand point.
    • Demonstrated success in performing work and managing complex and/or large consulting projects.
    • Proficient in authoring, editing and presenting technical documents.
    • Ability to elicit requirements and communicate clearly with non-technical individuals, development teams, and other ancillary project members.
    • Strong written and oral communication skills; Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical staff.
    • Desire to mentor younger team members and develop their skills.
    • Experience working on multiple concurrent projects.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills.
    • Be independent and self-driven.
    • Demonstrates flexibility and commitment required to achieve personal and project success including a willingness to travel as required by engagement (potentially up to 80%)

    Preferred skills and education

    • Demonstrates prior experience and aptitude working with Intranet-as-a-Service products that integrate with Office 365 SharePoint Online, such as Catapult Fuse.
    • Demonstrates prior experience with implementing collaborative solutions based on services available with Office 365.
    • Demonstrates prior experience with Office 365 security, compliance, and governance controls.
    • Demonstrates prior experience and aptitude working with implementing components Azure including web apps, service bus, functions, and logic apps.
    • Demonstrates prior experience and aptitude working with Business Intelligence tools including SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS), and Power BI.
    • Demonstrates prior experience and aptitude working with Nintex Workflow and Forms for both development and migration.
    • Demonstrates prior experience and aptitude using Metalogix Content Matrix to migrate on-premise SharePoint to Office 365 SharePoint Online.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
    • Preferred certifications for this position include Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE): Enterprise Devices and Apps
