Perficient currently has a career opportunity for a Cloud Software Engineer in our Detroit office located in Livonia, Michigan.   As a Cloud Software Engineer you will participate in all aspects of the software development lifecycle including  estimating, technical design, implementation, documentation, testing, deployment and support of application developed for our clients. As a member working in a team environment you will work with Solution Architects and Developers on interpretation/translation of wireframes and creative designs into functional requirements, and subsequently into technical design.



  • Serve as a core member of an engineering team that designs and develops REST microservices and other software applications.
  • Write code and unit tests, automation, and conducting code reviews all while pair programming (with few exceptions).
  • Provide application design and architecture leadership on microservices.
  • Work with team members to establish best practices to maximize efficiency and minimize risk.
  • Interact and work closely with product manager to devise solutions and break them down into incremental production-ready user stories.
  • Identify exciting opportunities for adopting new technologies to solve existing needs and predicting future challenges.
  • Grow technical capabilities / expertise and provide guidance to other members on the team.
  • Lead the technical planning & requirements gathering phases including estimate, develop, test, manage projects, architect and deliver.
  • Serve as a technical lead and mentor.  Provide technical support or leadership in the development and continual improvement of service.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with team members.
  • Demonstrate the ability to adapt and work with team members of various experience level.


  • 5+ years of software engineering experience (i.e., application / microservices architecture, design, full application/system development lifecycle).
  • Technological leadership (depth in understanding of technologies used to deliver solutions).
  • Experience with REST Web Services developed using Spring or JavaEE Framework.
  • Experience with REST API methods and implementation of web services in a distributed architecture system (i.e., PCF on Azure).
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and become productive in new technologies quickly.
  • Experience helping troubleshoot application and performance issues.
  • Knowledge of features, user stories and acceptance criteria.
  • Willing to pair program, work on a highly collaborative team, fulfill different roles and fill gaps.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with remote, global teams.
  • Agile mindset.
  • Proactive attitude and not afraid to ask questions.
  • Strong desire to help the company become more efficient and build solutions that make the team more productive and increase quality confidence.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Open to travel and/or work with teams in different time zones.
  • Experience in CI, CD and Test Driven Development – using tools like GitHub, Nexus, Jenkins/Concourse, automated testing tools.
  • Prior experience or awareness of working with project management software such Pivotal Tracker, Jira, or Rally.


Nice-to-Have Skills/Experience:

  • Exposure to automated testing concepts, tools, and frameworks.
  • Prior experience consulting around architectural guidance for application projects and teams utilizing Pivotal Cloud Foundry and the Spring framework.
  • Behavioral Leadership (ability to handle difficult situations and build relationships).
  • Experience with Kanban or XP methodology and practices.
  • Prior experience coaching/mentoring teams.
  • Exposure to OAuth authorization framework.
  • Prior experience using Postman and SoapUI.
  • Experience consuming both REST and SOAP web services.
  • Experience with DataPower.
